I found this, as many a great find, while staring down at the ground, thinking. This metallic gem — probably 5 inches wide — lives in a sidewalk on my walk to work, outside the quirky, thought-provoking gallery, De Vera. I’ve missed or ignored it many times before, having likely stepped on, over and around it. But today it gifted itself to me, and its journey will continue with you.

Make note of this little scrap of wisdom, found on De Vera’s homepage, which is undoubtedly the philosophical precedent behind this gift. 

Some one understood that this moment must occur, that a smile would find this face, that time would see this form through piles of ordinary moments, to leave happy little blips on the brains of quirk-loving people like me, and even you. There is happiness on those paths we’ve so often travelled, it seems to say. The roads we’ve worn bare, become nearly blind to — thereupon (there, within) lies joy, if we look, look twice, turn back to pause.

So here’s to looking down, here’s to thinking, and here’s to the discovery of inherent beauty within all things.
